2016-W Walking Liberty Half Dollar - PCGS SP70 - 100th Anniversary First Strike
Offered here is an authentic 2016-W Walking Liberty Half Dollar Centennial Gold Coin, struck at the West Point Mint and certified by PCGS as SP70 First Strike.
Issued in 2016 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the original Walking Liberty Half Dollar, this special centennial release recreates Adolph A. Weinman's celebrated Walking Liberty design in gold. The original silver half dollar debuted in 1916 and became one of the most recognizable designs in American numismatics.
This centennial issue was struck in 99.99% pure 24-karat gold and contains one-half troy ounce of gold. The obverse features Liberty walking toward the rising sun while carrying branches of laurel and oak. The reverse depicts an eagle perched on a rocky outcrop.
Graded SP70 by PCGS, this example received the highest numerical grade available from PCGS. The First Strike designation indicates that PCGS received the coin within its qualifying early-release period following the coin's initial release.
