1883-O Morgan Silver Dollar - PCGS AU-53 - VAM-22A Partial E Reverse
Offered here is an authentic 1883-O Morgan Silver Dollar, struck at the historic New Orleans Mint and certified by PCGS as AU-53. This example is attributed as the collectible VAM-22A Partial E Reverse, a recognized Hot 50 Morgan Dollar variety.
The 1883-O Morgan Dollar had an original mintage of 8,725,000 coins. Each was struck at the New Orleans Mint and carries the distinctive "O" mintmark on the reverse.
The VAM-22A Partial E Reverse is a die-clash variety distinguished by a partial impression of the letter "E" from Liberty's LIBERTY headband appearing on the reverse. The feature resulted from the obverse and reverse dies coming into contact without a planchet properly positioned between them. This transferred part of the obverse design onto the reverse die, which subsequently produced the distinctive Partial E feature on struck coins.
Designed by George T. Morgan, the obverse features the iconic portrait of Liberty, while the reverse depicts a heraldic eagle with outstretched wings surrounded by a wreath.
Graded AU-53 by PCGS, this example is certified in About Uncirculated condition. Coins at this grade retain substantial original design detail with only light circulation wear visible on the higher points of the design.
