A scarce and highly collectible 1921-D Winged Liberty Head Dime, commonly known as the Mercury Dime, certified NGC VF-20.
Struck at the Denver Mint, the 1921-D is one of the key dates of the entire Mercury Dime series, with a remarkably low mintage of just 1,080,000 coins. NGC identifies the 1921-D as having the second-lowest mintage of the series, and surviving examples are scarce in all grades.
Designed by Adolph A. Weinman, the obverse features Liberty wearing a winged Phrygian cap, symbolizing freedom of thought. The reverse depicts a fasces—representing strength and authority—alongside an olive branch symbolizing the desire for peace.
This example is graded NGC VF-20 (Very Fine), offering a pleasing balance of remaining detail and circulated character. The 1921-D is an important date for collectors building a complete Mercury Dime collection and is considerably scarcer than most dates in the series.
