1942/41 Mercury Dime — NGC VF-25
A highly collectible 1942/41 Winged Liberty Head (Mercury) Dime, certified NGC VF-25, featuring one of the most famous overdate varieties in 20th-century U.S. coinage.
The 1942/41 overdate was created when a working die received impressions from both a 1941 and 1942-dated hub, leaving traces of the underlying “41” beneath the final 1942 date. The variety was produced at both the Philadelphia and Denver Mints, making it an especially fascinating error in American numismatics.
This example is graded NGC VF-25 (Very Fine), offering substantial remaining detail while displaying the attractive character of a circulated classic U.S. silver coin. The 1942/41 is considered an essential variety for Mercury Dime collectors and commands a significant premium over a standard 1942 dime.
Designed by Adolph A. Weinman, the obverse features Liberty wearing a winged Phrygian cap, representing freedom of thought. The reverse depicts the fasces alongside an olive branch, symbolizing strength and peace.
