The 1968 U.S. Mint Proof Set marks the resumption of official proof set production after a hiatus from 1965 through 1967 (during which Special Mint Sets were issued instead). It was also the first proof set to be struck at the San Francisco Assay Office (later Mint), featuring an "S" mintmark on the obverse of the coins.
