1913-S Type I Buffalo Nickel
The 1913-S Type I Buffalo Nickel is a historic early issue of one of America's most recognizable coin designs. Designed by James Earle Fraser, the obverse features a Native American portrait, while the reverse depicts an American bison standing on a raised mound.
The Type I design was produced during the first part of 1913 before the reverse was modified to protect the denomination from excessive wear. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, identified by the S mintmark, this early variety is a desirable collectible among Buffalo Nickel enthusiasts, particularly because of its first-year significance and mint-specific appeal.
