France Silver 10 Francs (1965–1973) – Hercules Design
The French 10 Francs Hercules silver coin was issued from 1965 through 1973 during the Fifth Republic of France. Designed by renowned French engraver Augustin Dupré, this classic coin features an iconic allegorical scene representing the ideals of liberty, equality, and fraternity.
The reverse depicts Hercules standing between the personifications of Liberty and Equality, symbolizing strength, unity, and the founding principles of the French Republic. The inscription “LIBERTÉ ÉGALITÉ FRATERNITÉ” surrounds the central figures. The obverse displays the denomination “10 FRANCS” and the year within a decorative wreath of oak and laurel branches, encircled by “RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE.”
Struck in 90% silver, this substantial French coin contains 22.5 grams of pure silver, making it popular among collectors of European numismatics and world silver coins. The series was withdrawn from circulation in 1980 and remains a recognizable example of modern French silver coinage.
