2015 Bullion Silver Eagles PCGS SP-70 Burnished Silver Eagle First Day, Mercanti, Wash. DC

2015-W Burnished American Silver Eagle - PCGS SP-70 - First Day - Mercanti

Offered here is an authentic 2015-W Burnished American Silver Eagle, struck at the West Point Mint and certified by PCGS as SP-70, with a First Day designation and Mercanti attribution.

The American Silver Eagle has been the official silver bullion coin of the United States since its introduction in 1986. In addition to the standard bullion and proof versions, the U.S. Mint has produced special collector editions featuring a distinctive burnished finish. These coins are struck on specially prepared planchets and carry the "W" mintmark of the West Point Mint.

The obverse features Adolph A. Weinman's celebrated Walking Liberty design, originally introduced on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar in 1916. Liberty is depicted walking toward the rising sun while carrying branches of laurel and oak.

The reverse features John Mercanti's Heraldic Eagle design, depicting an eagle behind a shield with an olive branch and arrows in its talons and thirteen stars positioned above. Mercanti served as Chief Engraver of the United States Mint and designed the reverse used on American Silver Eagles from 1986 through the Type 1 issues of 2021.

Struck in 99.9% pure silver, the coin contains one troy ounce of silver and carries a legal tender face value of one dollar.

Graded SP-70 by PCGS, this example received the highest numerical grade available for this special strike classification. The First Day designation and Mercanti attribution provide additional collector interest to this certified burnished Silver Eagle.
