2015-W Proof American Silver Eagle - PCGS PR-70 DCAM - First Day of Issue - Philadelphia Mercanti
Offered here is an authentic 2015-W Proof American Silver Eagle, struck at the West Point Mint and certified by PCGS as PR-70 Deep Cameo, with the First Day of Issue - Philadelphia Mercanti attribution.
The American Silver Eagle has been the official silver bullion coin of the United States since its introduction in 1986. Proof Silver Eagles are produced specifically for collectors using specially prepared planchets and dies, creating highly reflective fields and sharply frosted design elements.
The obverse features Adolph A. Weinman's celebrated Walking Liberty design, originally introduced on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar in 1916. Liberty is depicted walking toward the rising sun while carrying branches of laurel and oak.
The reverse features John Mercanti's classic Heraldic Eagle design, depicting an eagle behind a shield with an olive branch and arrows in its talons and thirteen stars positioned above. Mercanti served as Chief Engraver of the United States Mint and designed the Heraldic Eagle reverse used on American Silver Eagles beginning in 1986.
This example carries the special First Day of Issue - Philadelphia Mercanti attribution recognized by PCGS. The Philadelphia designation relates to the special First Day of Issue certification attribution and should not be confused with the coin's mint of origin. The coin itself was struck at the West Point Mint and bears the distinctive "W" mintmark.
Struck in 99.9% silver, the coin contains approximately one troy ounce of silver and carries a legal tender face value of one dollar.
Graded PR-70 by PCGS, this example has received the highest numerical proof grade assigned by PCGS. The DCAM, or Deep Cameo, designation recognizes the strong visual contrast between the deeply mirrored fields and sharply frosted design elements.
