The 2021 American Silver Eagle represents one of the most significant transition years in the history of the series. During 2021, the U.S. Mint retired the original Heraldic Eagle reverse used since 1986 and introduced the new Eagle Landing reverse, creating the collectible Type 1 and Type 2 Silver Eagle issues.

This example is the Type 2 Reverse Proof issue, featuring the new Eagle Landing design and a distinctive reverse proof finish. Unlike a traditional proof coin with mirrored fields and frosted design elements, a reverse proof uses frosted fields with contrasting mirror-like design elements, creating a distinctive appearance.

The coin was originally issued as part of the 2021 American Eagle One Ounce Silver Reverse Proof Two-Coin Set Designer Edition. The set paired a Type 1 Reverse Proof Silver Eagle struck at West Point with a Type 2 Reverse Proof Silver Eagle struck at San Francisco. The U.S. Mint limited the product to 125,000 sets.

The obverse features Adolph A. Weinman's celebrated Walking Liberty design, refreshed for the Type 2 Silver Eagle to more closely reflect Weinman's original artistic vision and incorporating his artist mark.

The Type 2 reverse was designed by Emily Damstra and depicts an American bald eagle descending while carrying an oak branch in its talons. The design was sculpted by U.S. Mint Medallic Artist Michael Gaudioso.

Struck in 99.9% fine silver, the coin contains one troy ounce of silver, carries a legal tender face value of one dollar, and bears the distinctive "S" mintmark of the San Francisco Mint.
