2021 Silver Eagle NGC MS-70 T-1 First Releases Emergency Production

2021-(P) American Silver Eagle - NGC MS-70 - Type 1 Emergency Production - First Releases

Offered here is an authentic 2021-(P) American Silver Eagle Type 1 Emergency Production, struck at the Philadelphia Mint and certified by NGC as MS-70 First Releases.

The 2021 American Silver Eagle represents one of the most significant transition years in the history of the series. During 2021, the U.S. Mint retired the original Heraldic Eagle reverse used since 1986 and introduced the new Eagle Landing reverse, creating the collectible Type 1 and Type 2 Silver Eagle issues.

This example is a Type 1 Emergency Production issue struck at the Philadelphia Mint. Supplemental Silver Eagle production was conducted at Philadelphia to support bullion coin production during a period of extraordinary demand and production challenges.

The coin itself does not carry a physical P mintmark. The parenthetical (P) identifies the Philadelphia Mint attribution rather than a mintmark physically struck on the coin.

The obverse features Adolph A. Weinman's celebrated Walking Liberty design, originally introduced on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar in 1916. Liberty is depicted walking toward the rising sun while carrying branches of laurel and oak.

The Type 1 reverse features John Mercanti's classic Heraldic Eagle design, depicting an eagle behind a shield with an olive branch and arrows in its talons and thirteen stars positioned above. The 2021 Type 1 represents the final year of this classic reverse design before the transition to the Type 2 Eagle Landing reverse.

Struck in 99.9% fine silver, the coin contains one troy ounce of silver and carries a legal tender face value of one dollar.

Graded MS-70 by NGC, this example has received the highest numerical Mint State grade assigned by NGC.

The First Releases designation indicates that the coin met NGC's requirements for certification within the qualifying initial release period.
