2020 Silver Eagle ANACS MS-69 First Strike Emergency Production

2020-(P) American Silver Eagle - ANACS MS-69 - Emergency Production - First Strike

Offered here is an authentic 2020-(P) American Silver Eagle Emergency Production, struck at the Philadelphia Mint and certified by ANACS as MS-69 First Strike.

The 2020-(P) Emergency Production Silver Eagle is a distinctive issue from an extraordinary period in the history of the American Silver Eagle series. During the COVID-19 pandemic and a period of increased demand for precious metals, the U.S. Mint supplemented Silver Eagle production by striking bullion coins at the Philadelphia Mint.

Only 240,000 American Silver Eagles were struck at Philadelphia during this emergency production period, which took place from April 8 through April 20, 2020.

The coin itself does not carry a physical P mintmark. The parenthetical (P) identifies the Philadelphia Mint attribution rather than a mintmark physically struck on the coin.

The obverse features Adolph A. Weinman's celebrated Walking Liberty design, originally introduced on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar in 1916. Liberty is depicted walking toward the rising sun while carrying branches of laurel and oak.

The reverse features John Mercanti's classic Heraldic Eagle design, depicting an eagle behind a shield with an olive branch and arrows in its talons and thirteen stars positioned above. The 2020 issue was among the final Silver Eagles featuring this original reverse before the series transitioned to the new Eagle Landing reverse in 2021.

Struck in 99.9% fine silver, the coin contains one troy ounce of silver and carries a legal tender face value of one dollar.

Graded MS-69 by ANACS, this example is certified at the near-perfect Mint State level. Coins at the MS-69 level exhibit exceptional overall quality, with only minute imperfections preventing the highest MS-70 designation.

The First Strike designation provides additional collector interest and identifies the coin with the special release designation shown on its ANACS certification.
