1991-S Proof American Silver Eagle - NGC PF-70 Ultra Cameo
Offered here is an authentic 1991-S Proof American Silver Eagle, struck at the San Francisco Mint and certified by NGC as PF-70 Ultra Cameo.
The 1991-S is an early issue in the American Silver Eagle series, which was introduced in 1986. Proof Silver Eagles were produced specifically for collectors using specially prepared planchets and dies, creating highly reflective fields and sharply frosted design elements.
The obverse features Adolph A. Weinman's celebrated Walking Liberty design, originally introduced on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar in 1916. Liberty is depicted walking toward the rising sun while carrying branches of laurel and oak.
The reverse features John Mercanti's classic Heraldic Eagle design, depicting an eagle behind a shield with an olive branch and arrows in its talons and thirteen stars positioned above. This design became the classic Type 1 reverse of the American Silver Eagle series.
The 1991 Proof Silver Eagle was struck at the San Francisco Mint and bears the distinctive "S" mintmark.
Struck in 99.9% fine silver, the coin contains one troy ounce of silver and carries a legal tender face value of one dollar.
Graded PF-70 by NGC, this example has received the highest numerical proof grade assigned by NGC. The Ultra Cameo designation recognizes the strong contrast between the deeply mirrored fields and sharply frosted design elements.
