Offered here is an authentic 2016-W Proof American Silver Eagle, struck at the West Point Mint and certified by NGC as PF-70 Ultra Cameo, featuring the special 30th Anniversary lettered edge.

The 2016 American Silver Eagle marked the 30th anniversary of the American Silver Eagle program, which began in 1986. To commemorate this milestone, the U.S. Mint introduced a special edge treatment on the 2016 proof and burnished collector editions.

Instead of the traditional reeded edge found on earlier Proof Silver Eagles, the 2016-W Proof features a smooth edge incused with the inscription "30th ANNIVERSARY". This distinctive feature is unique to the anniversary-year collector issues and makes the 2016-W readily identifiable from other Proof Silver Eagles.

The obverse features Adolph A. Weinman's celebrated Walking Liberty design, originally introduced on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar in 1916. Liberty is depicted walking toward the rising sun while carrying branches of laurel and oak.

The reverse features John Mercanti's classic Heraldic Eagle design, depicting an eagle behind a shield with an olive branch and arrows in its talons and thirteen stars positioned above.

The coin was struck at the West Point Mint and bears the distinctive "W" mintmark.

Struck in 99.9% fine silver, the coin contains one troy ounce of silver and carries a legal tender face value of one dollar.
