2021 American Silver Eagle Type II - ANACS MS-70 First Strike
Offered here is an authentic 2021 American Silver Eagle Type II, certified by ANACS as MS-70 First Strike.
The 2021 Type II Silver Eagle is one of the most notable modern issues in the American Silver Eagle series. It was released mid-year in the program’s 35th anniversary year as the first bullion Silver Eagle to carry Emily Damstra’s new landing-eagle reverse, replacing John Mercanti’s Heraldic Eagle design used from 1986 through the first part of 2021.
The coin carries the ANACS First Strike designation, indicating that it was submitted to ANACS among the early releases of the new Type II design. That early-submission attribution is a popular collecting distinction within the certified Silver Eagle market.
The 2021 Type II bullion Silver Eagle had combined production of approximately 14,968,500 coins, struck primarily at the West Point Mint with additional San Francisco output. While that figure is substantial, it is the first-year Type II bullion issue and remains a key one-year transitional date in the series.
The obverse features Adolph A. Weinman’s celebrated Walking Liberty design, originally introduced on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar in 1916 and refreshed in 2021 from higher-resolution source material. Liberty is shown striding toward the sunrise, draped in the American flag, with the date 2021 below.
The reverse features Emily Damstra’s Type 2 eagle design, introduced in 2021, depicting a bald eagle approaching a landing with an oak branch in its talons. Type II coins also include a reeded-edge variation as an added security feature.
The coin was struck as a bullion issue and bears no mintmark.
Struck in 99.9% fine silver, the coin contains one troy ounce of silver and carries a legal tender face value of one dollar.
Graded MS-70 by ANACS, this example has received the highest numerical mint-state grade assigned by ANACS. The First Strike designation recognizes that the coin was submitted among the early releases of the Type II issue.
