1945 Walking Liberty Half Dollar - PCGS MS-65
Offered here is an authentic 1945 Walking Liberty Half Dollar, struck at the Philadelphia Mint and certified by PCGS as MS-65.
The Walking Liberty Half Dollar was produced from 1916 through 1947 and is widely regarded as one of the most celebrated designs in American coinage. The Philadelphia Mint produced 31,502,000 Walking Liberty Half Dollars in 1945.
As a Philadelphia Mint issue, this coin carries no mintmark.
The obverse was designed by Adolph A. Weinman and depicts Liberty walking toward the rising sun, draped in the American flag and carrying branches of laurel and oak. This celebrated design later became the basis for the obverse of the American Silver Eagle beginning in 1986.
The reverse depicts a bald eagle perched on a mountain crag, with a mountain pine emerging from the rock. Both the obverse and reverse were designed by Weinman.
Struck in 90% silver and 10% copper, the coin has a standard weight of 12.50 grams and contains approximately 0.3617 troy ounce of silver.
Graded MS-65 by PCGS, this example is certified at the Gem Mint State level with no wear from circulation. Coins at the MS-65 level typically exhibit strong original luster, attractive eye appeal, and only minor contact marks or imperfections consistent with the assigned grade.
